3 Tips for a Successful New Year

New Year, New You...kind of.

If you've ever read any kind of inspirational article written around the time of a new year, chances are you've heard the phrase 'new year, new you'. Here at Jonas Paul Eyewear we're all about improving ourselves and being the best version of ourselves that we can be! That said, we'd like to encourage you to take a different approach this year. New year, new you can feel like a daunting phrase, and one that potentially implies totally starting from scratch on who we are. Rather than feeling like we need to start from scratch, why not make small but impactful adjustments that feel tangible and reachable? (...and, can we add, are beneficial for your eye health!)

Without further ado, we present our 3 tips for a successful new year!

1. BE PROTECTIVE

...of your family's eyes! Whether you're inside or outside, there are always actions you can take to protect you and your family's eyes. Need some ideas?

  • Going for a walk outside? Throw on a pair of our kids sunglasses, sunglasses for teens, or sunglasses for small faces.
  • Doing homework on the computer or preparing a presentation for work? Check out our kids blue light glasses, teen blue light glasses, and blue light glasses for small faces for protection during required screen time. Plus, don't forget the 20-20-20 rule! For ever 20 minutes that you are looking at a screen or close object, be sure to look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds to give your eyes a break!
  • Not sure what to eat for lunch or dinner? Whatever you decide on, be sure to get in lots of leafy greens and other foods that have plenty of Vitamin A, such as carrots! Vitamin A deficiency is the leading cause of childhood blindness around the world, and can be easily prevented by making sure our diets are full of nutrients.

2. BE PRESENT

We don't know about you, but the more that technology is prevelant in our day-to-day lives, the more difficult it is go longer periods without 'the scroll'. In an effort to be more present with our friends and family this year, join us in putting down the technology to just BE.

Be bored. Be creative. Be present with those around you. It's in these times when we are fully present with one another that we make the longest-lasting memories, in our opinion. Plus, putting the phone down is will help reduce eye strain and headaches!

3. BE PROACTIVE

It's never too early to start paying attention to your child's eye health! Many eye doctors recommend getting a child's eyes checked every six months, and our team recommends having your child's eyes checked right before they begin kindergarden, if not sooner. Sometimes kids have a hard time explaining that they have poor vision, and it can often be tricky as parents to know when they are having trouble seeing.

Wondering where to get their eyes checked? We'd recommend seeing if there is a store near you that carries our frames, in case they do end up needing glasses and you want to try some on immediately! Visit our store locator to start browsing.
